Outdoor Experiences 101
Outdoor Experiences 101: Backpacking in the Rockies is a 3 credit high school course focused on 'hands-on', practical learning in the outdoors. Running evenings and weekends for a total of 75 hrs, the course includes a three day backpacking trip to Kananaskis country. Each session is limited to twelve participants. Students are reminded that OE 101 is a prerequisite to OE 202 and that a minimum grade of 65% is required. Course modules include:

- CTR 1210 Personal Safety (1 credit-prerequisite-must be completed to continue with the course)
- WLD 1010 What is Wildlife? (1 credit)
- WLD 1030 Outdoor Survival (1 credit)
Outdoor Experiences 202
Outdoor Experiences 202: Canoeing on the Red Deer River is a 7 day summer course involving training in basic canoe strokes and maneuvers.A total of 75 hrs instruction will include a 4 day expedition on the Red Deer River. The course is limited to twelve participants and successful completion of OE 101 is required. Students may earn 3 high school credits for the completion of the course. Course modules include:
- PE 20 or 30 Extension (2 credit)
- WLD 2030 Outdoor Experiences 2 (1 credit)
Instructors:
Mr. Kevin Prediger – Mr. Prediger has led over 40 outdoor education field trips at the Junior/Senior High Level including Canoeing, Cross country Skiing, Caving, Rock climbing, and Hiking and has participated in many outdoor expeditions including mountain climbing, extended horse pack trips and hiking.
Mr. Bill Hopkins – Mr. Hopkins has extensive experience with outdoor education at the senior high level including hiking, canoeing and kayaking and is an avid outdoorsman spending many hours kayaking around western Canada.
Mrs. Kelly Shimp – Mrs. Shimp is a hunter education instructor and has led numerous outdoor education expeditions throughout her years at St. Augustine School.
